About the Author
Trevor was born in 1974 and have enjoyed reading and writing my whole life. My dream is to get my work known around the world. I'd also like to get into screenplays so I can see my work in theaters.
I had the chance to interview this great author. Read on to learn more about him.
1. Please tell the readers a bit more about you.
I am a proud Canadian and I live just outside the Country's Capital City, Ottawa Ontario. I have made a lot of changes in my life over the last year and continue to change everyday. I have adopted a healthy lifestyle and plan to spend a lot of time traveling as soon as I can.
2. What types of books do you write?
I write fiction books. Some call them Science Fiction, others adventure. I am not sure of what label they should have, but I know they are meant for an adult audience and they are a lot of fun to write. I like to think I spark the readers imagination and curiosity.
3. Who's your main audience?
Due to the content of my books, my audience is primarily adult, though I know a few young teens have read them and enjoyed them. I like to think my books are meant for anyone over the age of 14 but parents should read them before allowing their kids the same opportunity.
4. When it comes to writing- what are your strong points? What are your weaknesses?
When it comes to writing I am strong as far as the story goes. It just pours out of me like water from a pitcher. I am no good at the small stuff. I need to have an editor because I mess up the punctuation, grammar, spelling etc. Spell check only saves you if you are using the right word in context. ie Their, there, and they're. If not ... spell check won't save you.
5. What do you think of this term- Writer's Block? How do you overcome it?
Writer's block is a very real thing and I use 3 methods to get past it. First, I read. I find reading books of similar genres can help spark my creative flow. Second, I get out into nature. Walking or sitting in the forest helps to clear my head. Finally, I walk away. If nothing else works, I just put down whatever I am working on and leave it sit. Sometimes it takes a few days or maybe a few weeks, but I feel the”bug” when the time is right and I go back to work. It is a process that works for me.
6. How many books have you written?
I have written 3 books so far. They are part of a six book series. The first two are in print and for sale. The third is currently at the editor and should be off to the publisher within a couple of weeks. I have started work on book 4 and I am currently about 40 pages into it.
7. How many are published?
As I mentioned above, the first two have been through the publishing procedure and the third will be going through it soon. All of my books get the same treatment.
8. Are you self published or traditionally published?
I use a publishing company here in Ottawa. They are not like other publishers as they do not market my books for me. I am in charge of all marketing and publication of my book. My publisher provides ISBN numbers, copyrighting, sales in his storefront and online and he sends copies of my books to the National Library Of Canada. But that is where his duties end and mine begin.
9. What's the hardest part of the writing process for you?
Writing is not the hard part at all. I am a natural born writer. The hardest part is getting myself out in the market and making a name for myself. I will, one day soon, be a famous author. I will make it happen. Getting from where I am to where I am going to be is the hardest part of all. But with my determination, I will make it happen. Also I have some wonderful people that work with me that are a big part of where I will be one day. And I will always keep them close to me throughout the entire journey.
10. What type of books do you enjoy reading?
I read all types of books. The best way to be a better writer is to read as much as you can. I enjoy all types of fiction, but some historical books capture my interest as well. I also love the classics.
11. Who's your favorite Author?
To be totally honest, Stephen King is my favourite author and I own almost all of his books, so I read his work more than anyone else. He is a big inspiration and influence on me. I actually found a private address for him and sent my first 2 books to him, but I never heard back.
12. What's your all time favorite book?
Asking me what is my favourite book is an unfair question. If you want to know what my favourite King book is, it is actually his series, “The Dark Tower”, and my favourite book in that series is probably “The Wolves Of The Calla”. But I also found inspiration from the books written by Neale Donald Walsch, “Conversations with God”. However, I like reading Indie authors as well, because there are a lot of them out there with amazing stories. I am actually going to be acknowledging a bunch of them with a special dedication page in my third book. So you see I can not choose just one book to call my favourite. I love books in general.
13. How long does it take you to write a book?
From the first word until it is released for sale, it is almost 2 years. I could probably write much faster if all I did was write, but I have so much going on in my life that I don't write as often or as much as I should. I keep my life very busy and full all the time.
14. Out of all of your characters, which is your favorite? Why?
My favourite character is “The Old Bearded Man”. He is very mysterious to me and gives me the creeps. I actually found a mask that looks quite a bit like him and dressed up as him for Halloween 2012. He intrigues me very much.
15. What is one of the most surprising things you've learned as a writer?
I think the most surprising thing I have learned as a writer is that the literary community is very strong, helpful and caring. I have met so many wonderful people that not only write, but that also promote, review and blog about writers. They are all so close knit and amazing that I feel accepted with each and every one of them. I am proud to be a part of this community and I try to help out everyone as much as I can.
16. What does your family think of your writing?
16. What does your family think of your writing?
I have one of the best families in the world. Although a few of them are not readers, all of them are very supportive and wonderful. And I am not just talking about my parents and siblings. My aunts, uncles and cousins support me too. My family network is one of the best and most loving I have ever seen in my life and I am blessed to have each and every one of them on my side.
17. What does your writing schedule look like?
Schedule? Am I supposed to have one of those? I try to make time every day to write, but like I said earlier, I am very busy. I am a DJ once a week on an online radio station, I am a paranormal investigator and I volunteer at my church, so I sometimes skip my writing time. I know I should be better disciplined, and maybe one day I will be.
18. Do you manage to write every day?
I try to write at least every second day. It does get hard with everything else I do, but I plug away at it as much as I can.
19. What's the latest news you'd like to share?
The latest news I'd like to share is that after 4 years I am working on putting a new website together that will finally have a place to buy signed copies of all my books. I am also working on some non-fiction paranormal books with my group that should be out in a year or two.
20. Do you have any advice for new writers?
I have 2 pieces of advice for new writers. First of all, read as much as you can. Read authors and genres that you would not usually read. The best way to get good at writing is to amazing at reading. Secondly, never give up. I wrote my first book in 2001 and didn't find a publisher until 2008. From the first word I typed until I held the final copy in my hands it took almost 9 years. So keep with it no matter what obstacles you face.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview with me. I appreciate it more than you will ever know. God bless.- Trevor
