Character Realization

Silenced is coming along well. (For those of you who are new and don't know what Silenced is... it's my WIP.) The editing is taking a turn I didn't expect. As I'm reading through, I'm finding places where new idea's come about and I just have to add them in. It seems it went from an editing phase back to a rewrite.

One aspect that's really important within a novel are the characters. Writers create these characters to portray certain characteristics and they have these character go through certain things. My MC in my WIP deals with major depression. So, one aspect you'll read in the book is where she goes to see a doctor ("shrink").

At first, when this idea came to me, I had no idea what happened during the sessions. So, I set the goal to find out. I did some research on the Internet but the information I found didn't quite fit what I needed. So, I talked with my older sister (who works for a Psychiatrist) and got some information from her. This information helped a bit.

Then, I figured ... it's been a while since I did any type of counseling for my depression, I'd experience this myself. Not only would I use my sessions as helping me but also helping my reading as well. This experience has helped me write some amazing "scenes" within my book.

Question to those who write: What lengths do you go to... to ensure your portraying your characters the way you envision them?

Author Spotlight - Sarah Ballance

I'd like to welcome another amazing Author to The Writing World for our Author Spotlight. Let's welcome Sarah Ballance.

Below you will learn a bit more about Sarah:

Interview:

Please tell the readers a bit more about you.

Thanks so much for having me here today. I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom of six—three boys and three girls and they range in age from 13 years to 20 months. People always want to know if we had them on purpose and the answer is yes … all but the youngest. I had my tubes tied after baby #5 and #6 decided to come along anyway, and now that I've met her I will attest to the fact that she is exactly that stubborn and determined, LOL! My husband and I have been married for almost 15 years and we live on the coast, where we spend as much time as possible on a boat.

What types of books do you write?

Primarily contemporary romantic suspense with a sensual heat level. But my best-selling title, HAWTHORNE, is a paranormal romance that's been on and off the Amazon bestseller list for "ghosts" since it was released in July 2011. The sequel, which should be coming later this year, will be a romantic suspense.

Who's your main audience?
I have a pretty awesome variety of readers who contact me about my books—it's hard to categorize them! But I will say my books tend to have an edge of humor and a lack of frequent or explicit sex. I love to mix my romance with an element of danger. Passion seems to hit a whole new level when lives are on the line, and it's that for which I strive: capturing those primal instincts and breathing them into my characters as they fight not only for their lives, but for their love.

When it comes to writing- what are your strong points? What are your weaknesses?
One of my favorite things about suspense is weaving the clues throughout—I consider it an art form in itself, LOL. And a great many of my reviews note an ability to create characters with whom readers share an immediate connection. I LOVE that. But what I don't love is writing sex, and sex doesn't like being written by me. It normally turns out okay, but I'll never be known for the heat, LOL!

What do you think of this term- Writer's Block? How do you overcome it?
I've found when I can't move forward in a particular scene, it's usually because I have something else on my mind. Once I figure out where my distraction is, I go ahead and write that scene (or whatever portion of it I manage to spit out). That leaves me free to go back to where I left off, and at that point the words come freely. And when I reach the extra scene in sequence, it's an easy edit and I'm good to go.

How many books have you written?
I've completed six and I'm working on my seventh now.

How many are published?
Five are published. One is complete and under consideration with a publisher, and the seventh is my current project.

Are you self published or traditionally published?
I'm traditionally published with Noble Romance and Astraea Press, but with my next book, LAST CALL, I'm going the self-published route. I already have professionally designed cover art and I've hired an editor and a formatter and arranged for proofreading, so I'm not skimping over any steps. My main motivation is price: I'll be able to sell both ebooks and print copies at prices easily affordable to readers, hopefully gaining a wider audience as result.

What's the hardest part of the writing process for you?
The first chapter. Not only is it the foundation upon which the rest of the story is built—something especially when you're building that framework of suspense—but it's where, as an author, you need to grab the reader.

What type of books do you enjoy reading?
I'll read anything, but my heart is with romantic suspense. I have a stash of Harlequin Intrigues 50 books strong, and any time I need to feel inspired I grab one. My heart is there, and so is my passion.

Who's your favorite Author?
I don’t have anyone in particular, but I will give some props to B.J. Daniels. Her book, Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch, was my first "grown up" romantic suspense. I used to read Nancy Drew Case Files as a kid, and B.J. Daniels re-awakened in me that love of suspense. (And made it hot, LOL!)

What's your all time favorite book?
Ruffian: Burning from the Start. It's based on a true story, and although it's been almost 20 years since I read it, I still think of it often. I cried for days after I finished it, then I bought a second copy. I don't know why I need two, LOL, but I treasure them both.

Thank you so very much for welcoming me for the day. I offer weekly gift card giveaways on my blog, so if anyone is so inclined to join me I'd be honored to have you and thrilled to one day hand over a prize. :c)

Author Spotlight- David Estes

Welcome to the second Author Spotlight of the year. I'm happy to introduce David Estes to you. I've had some time to get to know David. Here's a little bit about him:

Thank you, David for joining us in this week's Author Spotlight. I had the chance to interview him and I think you'll enjoy it!

1. Please tell the readers a bit more about you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review my book and interview me. I was born in El Paso, Texas, but my family moved to Pittsburgh when I was very young. I grew up in the Steel town and am a fierce Penguins and Steelers fan. A loss by one of them is like a dagger through my heart (although being halfway around the world slightly eases the pain nowadays ;). I went to college at Penn State and studied accounting and then got a job at one of the big accounting firms. Accounting never really excited me but it was a “safe” job. In the back of my mind, I always had this crazy notion that someday I would write books for a living, but I always found some excuse not to write. I moved to Sydney two and a half years ago for work and met my wife, who helped convince me to start writing. Now she can’t get me to stop!

I love, love, love reading and I will never stop no matter how busy I am. I sneak it in whenever I can. My wife calls me ‘Brick’, after the child character from the TV show The Middle. In the show, Brick is constantly reading no matter where he is. That’s me. We’ll be watching TV and then a commercial will come on and Adele will run back into the kitchen to get a drink, and when she comes back, I will have my book out, trying to sneak in a page before the show comes back on! So while I don’t have nearly as much time as I used to because I work full time in addition to my writing, I still manage to read enough to satisfy my addiction.

2. What types of books do you write?
Currently I write fiction books for a younger audience, both Young Adult’s and Children’s. Fantasy, dystopian, paranormal, superhero: I like books that tickle the imagination and allow kids and teens (and even adults) escape from reality into worlds where amazing things are possible.

3. Who's your main audience?
Primarily young adults at the moment, because the three books I’ve published, the Evolution Trilogy (Angel Evolution, Demon Evolution, and Archangel Evolution) are aimed at young adults. Most of the YA industry targets females at the moment, and my books probably do too, but I hope my books will appeal to guys and girls because they are full of action and suspense.

However, I hope to have a published children’s series in the near future too. The series will be aimed at 7-10 year olds.

4. When it comes to writing- what are your strong points? What are your weaknesses?
I feel my biggest strength is my imagination. I have so many book ideas that I’ll never have enough time to write them all! I’m pretty good at moving the plot along, creating entertaining action scenes, and building suspense. Early on, I’ve struggled with character development a bit, but I’ve gotten better with every book I’ve written.

5. What do you think of this term- Writer's Block? How do you overcome it?
To be honest, I find the writing part quite easy. I have a nutty imagination that works overtime, so I don’t really get writer’s block or anything like that. My wife always says how she’s amazed how I can just sit down and start writing. I read the last paragraph or page that I wrote, and just get going. I don’t worry too much about getting every word perfect, that’s what rewriting and editing is for; rather I focus on moving the plot along, feeling the emotions of the characters, and enjoying the ride. Occasionally, I will just have a little trouble getting started at the beginning of a writing session, but it’s usually because I’m not in the right state of mind. To fix it all I need to do it listen to a song I like or read a book I’m enjoying. That’s it!

6. How many books have you written?
I’ve just finished my 9th book! I’m completely shocked by how much I’ve been able to accomplish in only 16 months. A year and a half ago I would’ve been satisfied if I could’ve written 1 book in that amount of time. They’re not all published, but I’m working towards publishing them all. Here’s the list:

1. Angel Evolution
2. Demon Evolution
3. Archangel Evolution

4. A YA novel about a boy with a very unique disability and one hell of a sense of humor who meets loads of interesting teenagers on a suspenseful yet funny adventure to uncover the truth about the father he never knew. I am seeking an agent for this novel but am still open to self-publishing it if I am unsuccessful.

5,6,7,8. The first four books in a children's series aimed at kids between the ages of 7 and 10. It's a classic superhero story about a girl who meets a strange animal who leads her to a treasure chest in the middle of the forest. The chest contains a gift that allows the girl to perform miraculous feats. I have another two books planned for the series, which I will be working to complete in 2012. The first book in the series is currently being reviewed by a large children's book publisher.

9. A YA post-apocalyptic dystopian thriller written from the perspective of two characters in alternating chapters. Without giving two much away, the two characters (one male and one female) come from very different walks of life, but are thrust together unexpectedly. As their lives intertwine, they must seek to bring balance to a world that is out of control. I’ll be seeking an agent and publisher for this book over the next few months.

7. How many are published?
Just three so far, the Evolution Trilogy (Angel Evolution, Demon Evolution, and Archangel Evolution). Available now everywhere e-books are sold and in print on Amazon. My wife displays them on our coffee table!

8. Are you self published or traditionally published?

Interesting question because I turned to self-publishing like so many other authors who get frustrated with the challenges of traditional publishing. Initially, my biggest challenge was to get an agent and/or a publisher. When I finished Angel Evolution, I researched those agents and publishers that would be most likely to take it on. I sent off dozens of one page query letters and began receiving rejections on an almost daily basis. It was tough, but it gave me plenty of time to continue writing the rest of the trilogy, as well as work on some other projects.

I kept querying, kept getting rejected, and then finished the trilogy. I decided I wanted to self-publish after hearing about how much easier it was to do these days and how some authors were having considerable success with it (eg Amanda Hocking—as an aside, it is my goal to be the male author version of her!). So I hired a cover artist, edited my books to death, utilized beta readers to improve them (resulting in some awesome changes to characters and to the ending of the entire trilogy), and learned the ins and outs of formatting your book for e-book and print. Two long, busy months later I released the entire trilogy on Amazon in print and everywhere e-books are sold!

It was amazing to see my work in print and available on various sites and it has been the coolest experience to read reader reviews, watch the number of fans on my Facebook page grow (I get excited every time the counter goes up by even 1 Like), get Twitter followers, write new posts on my blog (and actually get comments!). All in all, despite the challenges, the publishing process has been so rewarding. That being said, I am absolutely going to continue to seek a publisher for the other books I have written!

9. What's the hardest part of the writing process for you?
Being patient! When I have so many ideas I just want to get them all out and into books! When I get close to the end of a book I’m always tempted to rush through to finish it, but I need to tell myself to slow down and make sure I finish it properly.

I also have a lot of trouble with the editing/proofreading part. I always want to move onto the next project, rather than spending considerable time editing and rewriting. I rely heavily on my beta readers to help me improve my books.

10. What type of books do you enjoy reading?

All types of fiction really, but my favorite at the moment are YA dystopian books like The Hunger Games or Divergent. But I also love fantasy like Lord of the Rings or Eragon. Of course, I don’t mind a little Middle-Grade too, like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson!

11. Who's your favorite Author?
It’s hard to pick a favorite, but at the very top of the list are authors like Dean Koontz and J.R.R Tolkien. Tolkien was my favorite author as a child, while Koontz became a favorite of mine later in life. Each of them have an uncanny ability to weave words into a book, like threads into a tapestry. I have also been inspired recently by Suzanne Collins, who has seemingly come out of nowhere to gain immense popularity. She’s a great storyteller, which is what I hope to be.

12. What's your all time favorite book?
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, although the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy isn’t too far behind.

Building Vocabulary When Writing

One of the most important aspects of writing well is by building your vocabulary. I think when one is fluent with the English language, it maximizes their ability to tell not a good story but a great one. Many people get overwhelmed when it comes to learning new words because there's so many words out there. It is challenging to get the new vocabulary words from the short term memory into the long term memory. But with a little help of a few strategies, learning vocabulary can be fun. I try to challenge myself in different ways just to see what works best for me. What may work best for one doesn't always work best for another. So, I think it's a good idea to try several learning strategies when expanding ones vocabulary.

** Flashcards- This works best for me. Put the vocabulary word on one side and it's definition on the other. Then, quiz yourself with both. This is really good when you're really wanting to know the exact definition of a word.

Although some may use other ways to learn them, the point isn't how you learn them. It's learning them all together. If you practice different vocabulary words, in what way do you learn them?

Is all as it appears? While Taylor struggles for answers, she finds herself in the middle of a century old war centered on one miraculous revelation: evolution.

Review

Rating:

Angel Evolution gives a new meaning to dark and light. In this book, the author takes the reader on a journey that makes the heart race and leaves the reader wanting more. The unexpected twists only adds to the excitement. When Taylor's journey begins, she's a normal young woman starting college and just looking for that normal college experience. She wants a memorable time in college. She get all of that and more once she meets Gabriel and Christopher. Gabriel is an angel and Christopher is a demon. She's instantly part of an old war between the two and finding out her true feelings when it comes to Gabriel.

The plot flows nicely throughout the book and it's always adding to the adventure. I think the author did an exceedingly great job writing this book. The book deals with demons and angels. But it's no where near a "religious" book. I would recommend it to all YA readers. I give this book 5 (five) stars.

*David Estes is scheduled to be in our Author Spotlight on Saturday, Feb. 4th. Keep your eye out to learn more about this author.*

Calling All Authors,Writers, and Readers

The Writing World wants to do something different to include everyone. So, in hopes that this will be successful, I am asking everyone to share something with me. I'll choose a few out of the entries I get and display them on the main page.

Here's the question: What inspires you the most?

I get my inspiration from the world around me. Plenty of idea's actually came from my daughter saying something. I've gotten inspiration from sitting in my reading corner looking around the room. Inspiration comes from quotes I find online at Goodreads.com. (Which are posted to the right panel).

If your interested in submitting your unique ways to get inspiration, please use the contact form above and share those thoughts. If you're chosen, I'll send you an email announcing your entry will be displayed for all to see.

Good luck but most importantly: HAVE FUN!!!!

Author Interview: Karen Smith

I'd like to welcome Karen Smith to The Writing World. I must say that I love reading all the different answers to the interview questions. Thank you so much Karen for taking a moment to answer them.

Information about the Author: Karen is an award-winning best-selling author has sold 75 books since 1991 and has published with Silhouette, Harlequin, Kensington and Meteor/Kismet. The Writing World is completely amazed with Karen's dedication.

Interview:

1. Please tell the readers a bit more about you.

I've been published for twenty years, averaging 3 to 4 books a year. I was an English teacher turned mom and home decorator when back surgery put me flat for four years. During that time I began writing as a creative and emotional outlet. After writing for six years and finishing 13 manuscripts, I sold two books in a week to two different publishers. Since then I've been writing full time and rarely take a break. This past year I became involved in indie publishing. I've e-pubbed back list titles as well as new originals. I have one foot in indie publishing and one foot in traditional publishing. I like both. In my spare time I spend time with family as well as my two cats. My favorite hobbies are gardening and cooking.

2. What types of books do you write?

I have mostly written romance and women's fiction. But now I'm delving into mystery.

3. Who's your main audience?

My main audience is women who enjoy a love story which includes family relationships, too.

4. When it comes to writing- what are your strong points? What are your weaknesses?

My strongest writing talent is the ability to write with emotion. That's what usually propels my conflicts. My weakness is difficulty writing comedy. I can write warm humor but being able to write laugh-out-loud scenes is a talent I wish I possessed.

5. What do you think of this term- Writer's Block? How do you overcome it?

I'm not sure I believe in "writer's block." Many emotions and life circumstances can inhibit a writer's ability to concentrate or can damper a creative spirit. But writing as a vocation, a career or as a job is about putting words on paper or the computer or in my case on tape whether they're perfect or not. I overcome getting stuck by changing scenes, changing characters' point of views, changing my physical landscape, playing music or taking a shower or a walk and just letting my mind wander. But to me that isn't writer's block. It's just a time out to determine where my writing is going next.

6. How many books have you written?
Probably around 85.

7. How many are published?
79 are published.

8. Are you self published or traditionally published?
I'm both traditionally and self published.

9. What's the hardest part of the writing process for you?

The hardest part of the process now is promotion.  It can easily suck energy and hours from my writing time.

10. What type of books do you enjoy reading?
I read mostly suspense.

11. Who's your favorite Author?
Never just one! But if I have to choose I'd say Harlen Coben.

12. What's your all time favorite book?
The Flame And The Flower

Author Interview: Andrea DiGiglio

Welcome to the Writing world, Andrea. So glad you penciled us in to answer a few questions.

1. Please tell the readers a bit more about you. Born and raised in Michigan, Andrea has always been a writer at heart. Over the last decade she has written, starred and directed in many screenplays. In the last few years she decided to venture back into writing novels and hasn't looked back since. She is very excited to share the worlds she creates with all of you dreamers.

2. What types of books do you write? I write paranormal novels.

3. Who's your main audience? Young adult/Crossover, meaning the older side of YA readers and the younger side of adult readers

4. When it comes to writing- what are your strong points? Story telling I suppose. I can completely get lost in the world I create and I believe that is why readers can connect so well to it.

What are your weaknesses? Though I hate to admit this grammar.

5. What do you think of this term- Writer's Block? How do you overcome it? I loathe writer’s block. I usually start with taking a break from my work for a day or so. When I return to it if I am still stuck I turn to one of my trusted beta testers who most often can break my writer’s block for me.

6. How many books have you written? I am currently working on my second novel.

7. How many are published? My debut novel comes out February 19th.

8. Are you self published or traditionally published? Self published. All platforms including paperback.

9. What's the hardest part of the writing process for you? Editing. I feel like I am waiting for eternity for my book to return from my editor.

10. What type of books do you enjoy reading? Paranormal anything. YA paranormal, paranormal romance and horror.

11. Who's your favorite Author? That is the most difficult question but as of this moment I am completely in love with Keary Taylor’s work.

12. What's your all time favorite book? Currently the front runner is Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Will be available to purchase on Amazon, Smashwords and EPubit on February 19th. Links will be on all site listed above on release day.

*INFO* Author Interviews, book reviews, & Author Spotlight

I just wanted to take a moment and update everyone on the awesome changes we have in store for The Writing World. We are going to be doing many Author interviews, book reviews, and we will have an Author Spotlight each week.

The interviews will be posted at various days within the week. The interviews consist of a series of questions given to each Author to answer so the readers can get to know them better. At times, tips may be provided to help those aspiring writers out there in their writing journey.

Book Reviews will be posted each week depending on each book. My goal is to read a book each week and post the review the following Sunday. This means.. I'll be best friends with my Nook over the next few months.

Author Spotlights are to bring some amazing writers/authors to The Writing World over the next few months. The spotlight includes a book review, interview, and a permanent link to the left side that takes our readers directly to the Author's website. Thus, making it easy for us all to locate that book/author that caught our eyes.

I hope you all enjoy these changes as much as I am with doing the reviews and interviews. I've got to know some amazing Author's out there who inspire me and I'm hoping to do the same for all of my readers.

**If you're an Author who may be interested in any one of the events listed in this post, please feel free to contact me via the Questions tab at the top. I'm willing to work with traditional and self published authors. There are limited slots left for February's Interviews/Spotlights. Claim yours now.**

Writer's Block....

Writer's Block- a situation where an Author seems to loose what to do next within their work. In yesterdays post, I mentioned that I'd be doing a post on this and here it is.

A group I am part of on Facebook called "Writer Unboxed" helped me out on this one. I posted the question "How do you overcome writer's block?" within the group.

Well, today I'm going to share several of those replies in hopes that it'll help you to overcome writers block if you fall into this situation. Several members of the group had some outstanding views on this. I've even decided to use some of their advice within my own writing.

Lisa Janice Cohen : I think you have to know what is blocking you. Writer's block isn't one thing--it can be the resistance to writing, a sign that something isn't right with the current work, you need some time away from the idea, you need to let your creative brain re-charge, or you are not feeling well. Or any of dozens of things going on in your life. For me, writer's block is a signal that I need to take better care of myself and look to my life's balance, more than it being something specific to writing.

Rebeca Schiller: I have several remedies for Writer's Block. The first one is take a hot shower or bath. The hot water and steam always help me relax and I can think more clearly. Second, read something that is not related to your book. I'm writing about two modern-day Marxists who have launched a magazine modeled after the New Masses. The story touches on the Spanish Civil War, the Blacklist, The Tea Party, etc I keep away from those subjects and read historical spy thrillers from authors like Alan Furst or David Downing. Third, I watch a lot of movies just to listen to the dialogue and patterns of speech. My book is very chatty and I want my dialogue to sound natural, but distinct for each character. Fourth, I take a lot of photos for visual stimulation to help me describe scenes better. And these last two go together, exercise and sleep. When I get in a hard workout and a good night's sleep, I feel like I can write just about anything.

Jo Eberhardt: Writer's Block is every bit as real as Surgeon's Block and Travel Agent's Block, so I do what they would do -- I assess why I'm having trouble with this aspect of my job, where it all went wrong, and then formulate a plan to fix it. (Sometimes I may need a break from the project, sometimes I may need to make adjustments to my project, and sometimes I just need to force myself to write.)

Kathryn Magendie: I ask myself why I am not writing, because it is never for lack of "words" - there are always words. So, maybe it's fear or whatever I'm avoiding that needs to be addressed. I really don't call it writer's block, more like "get off your arse, Kat, and write the danged book, because that's the fun wonderful part!"

Some pretty good ideas. (Thanks ladies for you're input). Most important thing I can say is just remember.... rough spots are part of the writing process. Without them, everyone would be writing. (In my opinion)

5 Things I Learned While Writing My First Novel

Some people, well actually, there's probably a lot of people who wake up one morning with the sudden urge to write. Then, there are those people who seem like they were born to write. I would say I fall into both of these. I knew I was a great writer with some talent while I was in High School. My English teacher constantly told me how great she thought I'd do with writing amazing books. This is what inspired me. I began writing Poetry at first. But this didn't seem to scratch that itch for the lack of better words. One assignment I had while in school was to write a short story. This is where I realized that I love to write. Although life had taken me in a different direction, I still wrote when I can. As an example, in a journal.

Several years after writing this short story, I became a mother. One day while my baby sister was visiting, we decided to go through old boxed in my apartment so I could get a little organization within the apartment. She came across this short story and read it. She told me it was really good and that I should continue it into a longer story. This inspired me. This was in 2005.

I begin plotting out a more structured outline for the entire story. Wanting to expand it. While writing it, I've learned some very valuable things during this time that I'd like to pass on to those who are looking into writing more.

So here are the 5 Things I Learned While Writing My First Novel:

1. Never Give Up- This is one thing that I seemed to struggle with at first. It seemed like no matter how much time and how much I poured my heart into it, I had this little voice within telling me I can't do this. I'm not a writer, I only think I am. It sounds crazy but it's true. There were times I felt it was nothing but trash. Did I quit? No! I didn't. I pushed myself to continue and I planned even more. There were times where I hit what they call a "writer's block." There's ways to over come this. I'll be posting these ways a bit later on in another post.

2. Create Deadlines- This is one thing that I had to get used to. I didn't want to be just a writer. I wanted to be a great one. I think that when it comes to writing, deadlines are a must. As an example, when writing, create a deadline for when you want to finish the work your currently doing. This helps with self discipline which is I think is a must within the writing world.

3. Set Goals- This set was very easy for me but it also ties in with number two. Set the goals and a deadline for when you want to meet this goal. Here is a suggestion- "Write (insert number) words per week." This is a goal and it has a deadline.

4. Write, Write, & Write- I don't think I can stress this enough. I think the more you write- the better you get at it. This pretty much talks for itself. But it really doesn't matter where or what you write. As an example, when I feel overloaded by my novel, I turn to my blog. I also take a break from writing and find time for me. This is when I feel the most relaxed about writing and where my best idea's come from. If you find it hard to write, take a break and read. Read anything. A book.. a magazine... a newspaper... anything!

5. Don't let others get you down!- This is, in my opinion, one of the most important. I've had people tell me that my dream of being a published author is crap and I'll never reach it. I've had them tell me that my dream of writing in general is just a front for not actually doing something with my life. Well, these only put more of a desire within me for wanting to reach my main goal. These people don't realize they're not hurting me, they're helping me. Use the negative words for inspiration to write. One thing I feel as a writer you need to learn, is this: Words are words. Do not write to impress. Write to express. If you can understand this, you're off to a great start.

Review

The journey with Jacob Clark is one adventure I loved reading about. I think this story is great YA book. New Book Release- Bonded by Nicky Charles

Last year I did an interview with one amazing writer- Nicky Charles. She has written an awesome series and I actually did a review on the first book, "The Mating." I am happy to say that I got an email this morning from Nicky announcing the release of the next book in the series: Bonded. Here's the email announcement:

Dear Readers,
Finally, after countless glitches, fits and starts, Bonded has been published!  Crashed computers, lost files, 'real life' and even the piracy of some of my earlier stories all kept getting in the way of hitting that little 'submit' button.  But through it all, your support and patience (and prodding) kept me going.
I'm really excited about this book.  It took over ten months to write and edit which is rather surprising.  You see, it was supposed to be a short novella; a means of providing a back story for Damien who you met near the end of The Finding.  But Reno (the main male character in this book) is rather...forceful.  No meagre supporting character roles for him, thank you very much!
Yes, Reno demanded a full length novel and a deeper story line than I'd originally planned.  You see, he's tackling some touchy issues dealing with preconceptions and prejudices both subtle and obvious...  Well, you'll understand as you read the book.
The story is available at Smashwords and Feedbooks.  Some of the Smashwords affiliates (Barnes and Noble, Sony, Apple, Kobo and Diesel) can take a few weeks to update their catalogues.  If you don’t want to wait, go directly to the Smashwords or Feedbooks sites.  There are a number of formats to choose from.  The links are above and of course, the book is free!
As always, I ask that in lieu of paying me for my hobby, you make a donation to an animal shelter or foodbank.  The amount is your choosing; whatever your heart leads you to give.  Of course, reviews and/ or telling others about my books is also appreciated.  They are my main form of advertising.
Am I planning another book in the series?  I really hope so!  I have several ideas but will have to see how my readers respond and where my muse decides to take me.  Damien and Sam need their moment and I know many readers want to hear about Daniel and Tessa.  We'll have to see what ideas develop first.
I'd like to take one moment to point out the amazing amount of time my editor and friend, Jan Gordon, has devoted to this project.  Without her, this series wouldn't exist.  Much thanks, Jan.  You truly are amazing! If and when there are future books, I sincerely hope you are there to prompt and prod me along the way.
If you wish to contact me directly you can do so at nicky.charles@live.ca or go to my Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nicky-Charles/217412024968769?sk=wall
This is only my second newsletter and second time using a third party mailing list provider, so please bear with me.  If you were added to this mailing list in error, wish to be removed, or need to change your email address, inform me through my website.  Also, if you receive this newsletter more than once, let me know as some of you contacted me several times from different addresses and I might have you listed twice.
Thanks, and I hope you enjoy Bonded!
