[REVIEW] Obumbrate by Alivia Anders

Title: Obumbrate (The Illumine Series)

Author: Alivia Anders
Format: Kindle ebook
Description:
The anticipated sequel to Illumine!

Some secrets are dangerous to keep.
Some secrets are too dangerous to tell.

Essallie Hanley just wishes her life could go back to normal. But what's normal when you carry the burden of knowing you're a half-angel created for war, that the only person who can help you is a demon still waiting to kill you, and that your only chance for salvation rested in a boy who died in front of you?

If Essallie had turned her back on everything she'd learned, she could have made the most of her fractured life. That is, until Kayden told her that she's a ticking time-bomb; that at any given moment her blood could betray her, her veins burning her alive from the inside out until nothing but ash remains.

Desperate to find answers, and possibly find her only chance for survival, Essallie heads back for New York City, back to the place where it all began. With every answer comes a price, and with every price the risks and rewards become greater. But when Essallie soon finds herself the target of an unknown hunter determined to have her, all appears to be at wits' end. Until Ari, a man claiming to be Nephilim, steps in. Charming, gentle, and boldly brave, he seems to be exactly what Essallie needs.

Could Ari be the missing piece of her puzzle, or is he the promise of her demise?
Review (****)
Obumbrate is action packed and continuing the adventure with Essallie. The second book within the Illumine Series hooked me from the beginning. Essallie learns more about her powers and what she stands for. She's constantly fighting to find out the truth. Throughout the book Kayden, Ari, and Serena help her find her way out of some pretty tight situations. The plot runs smooth and the characters help the story to be more enjoyable.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an adventure that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat just like Illumine did. I can not wait to read the third book and see what happens.

I give this book four **** stars.

I was given a copy of this book in return for a honest review.

2013 Changes for The Writing World

As we come into a new year, it's the time once again to clean up the blog and prepare for upcoming interviews, tours, and reviews.

Review policy has been updated. The Writing World will no longer be accepting ebooks for review. Paperback copies are to be sent free of charge for reviews. No acceptions.

Please bare with me while I update the look to my blog. I think after two years of looking at the same layout... it's time for a change.

I'm open to new interviews and reviews, so if you're an interested author please feel free to contact me.

*NEW*  For the 2013 year, I have decided to choose one author per month to feature as the Author of the Month. During that month I'll help promote the author in every way I can. In exchange, the author must agree to promote any posts referring to them or their work. At the end of each month, the next author of the month will be announced.

Let's bring in the new year with a fresh blog and happy beginnings.

How to Write a Book Review

As a published author I have asked numerous readers to read Silenced and review it. Over the past week of the release of Silenced, several people have asked me what exactly is a review. Well... to start off... reviews are an authors life line. Great reviews help drive that author to continue in their writing and the not so good reviews help the author grow to become a better writer. They are not a way of editing but to help potential buyers.

Below you will find a brief explanation of what authors expect from a review ... good or bad.. and how to write one. So here we go.

Book reviews are an evaluation of a books quality, meaning, and goal. They should focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the content. It's not a critical book report or summary. It evaluates how much the author has succeeded in reaching their main goals with their work. When writing a review there's no correct way to do it.

First when books reviews are started, they should state the essential information within the first paragraph, which can include the authors name or the title of the book. If it's known, state the authors purpose for writing that particular book. Mention from what point of view it was written and if the author did it well.

Second answer several different questions in sentence form. Did you enjoy the overall story? Was it worth the read? Would you recommend the book to another? What did you think of the storyline and characters? How did the book affect you while reading it? Did you come to care about the characters or relate to a certain character?

Book reviews can range from 50 words to 1500 words. There's really not a limit on how long they have to be unless it's specified. Most authors aim to have reviews published on sites such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Some tend to invite Bloggers to write reviews as well.

One main point to remember is that when you are writing a review.. the plot should not be given within the review.

There you have it. My personal views on writing reviews. Enjoy and I hope I cleared up some of the confusion.

[REVIEW] Illumine by Alivia Anders #ebook #Amazon

Title: Illumine
 Author: Alivia Anders

Paperback: 150 pages
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (7 Jan 2012)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1469920670

Description:

For the past five months Essallie Hanley has been trying to forget about the frightening murder of her boyfriend. Haunted by vivid nightmares and hallucinations of the event she does anything she can to pretend she's like every other normal girl in High School. Only Essallie is far from normal. Able to conjure blue fire and a shimmering silhouette of wings from her body, she seeks the only known solace left to her name; her first home in Belfast, Maine. But she soon realizes that her return home is only the beginning of a long and twisted road taking her as far from her humanity as possible, with Kayden, the demon originally summoned to slaughter her, leading the way. Unable to touch her but oddly curious, he joins Essallie in her search to find out just what she is. But neither of them were prepared for the secrets they've begun to unravel, secrets that will change Essallie and everyone around her forever.

My Review

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy Illumine. It confused me. I wasn't ready for the very graphic beginning. As I read into the third chapter I realized I needed to read more. I had to find out what was going to happen. Essallie pulled me right in with her other than normal ways with conjuring fire and sprouting wings. When I found out what she was I didn't stop reading. I needed to see what happened.

Illumine turned into a quick read. The plot was well thought out and there weren't many areas within the book that requires an editors attention. Alivia did well with this story and I can't wait to read the next book.

I give Illumine 5 ***** stars and recommend it for my followers. This is a must read.

I was given a copy of Illumine in exchange for my honest review.

Feedback on Silenced

I wanted to share with you some of the reviews I got from Silenced. I'm so proud and excited to have this type of feedback.

5 star review: "I have gone through depression most of my life, I have never been able to put into words the feelings that I feel every day of my life. The beautiful Miss Raebeth did that for me. I could not believe my eyes as I read Amber's feelings and the darkness that enveloped her I literally had tears rolling down my cheeks. I am actually going to take this book w
ith me to my next therapist appointment, I have each page marked on a piece of paper so I can easily look it up while talking, and I will FINALLY be able to express in words how I feel inside. I have never resorted to cutting as Amber did but I totally understand the release that it gave her.

I got more and more mad at her mother as the story went on, the bold out right lies were atrocious! I was on the edge of my seat and unfortunately I am STILL on the edge of my seat! I want more! I cannot wait to see what happens in the upcoming books. I pray they come out soon because I am hanging by a thread just as I was hanging by Raebeths every word!

I would recommend this book to anyone with children/teenagers whether you think they might be depressed or not, or family members/friends that might be going through difficult times because this truly gives a great perspective into the mind of someone who might have the same feelings as Amber did throughout the book. at the end of the book I was SHOCKED! everything is going so great for Amber and then.....AAAHHH!!!

Great job Raebeth! I, as said before, cannot wait for the next book!" - Jessica S.

 5 star review
was excited to read this book as it was given to me for an honest review, and I could tell by reading about the book that I have not read anything else like it before. I was not disappointed after I got into the book. Amber's journey starts out with a move to a new home, learning that a truth she has known all her life turns out to be a lie, she starts cutting
herself for release. Everything that she feels as a reader I could feel, the descriptions of the scenes in the book were amazingly well written.

As I took the journey through Amber's eyes, I wanted to know more about her, about her life in general and more about the lie she's lived with all her life. Finding out the truth at a time when she did, caused Amber to spiral down into the darkness, depression sets in and she starts cutting for release. At this point I wanted to reach into the story and help her as I would with anyone whom I know in real life. She becomes friends with a few from her new school and things start to look up for Amber, her friend Casey is like a new sister to her. She also meets Landon and hits it off pretty well, he turns out to be her rock, something she can look forward too and this helps her to keep from cutting so much.

The author ends on a note that has me curious, wondering what is to come and wanting to know more. I can't help it author's all have a tendency to do this to readers, some more than others. As I finished Silenced (Silenced Series) all I kept thinking about is what's next, I want to read on. And that my dear readers is what every reader wants in a book, any book they read. ♥ You Raebeth, be sure to let me know when I can expect your next book! - Julia Hendrix

"I was gifted a copy of this book by the author. This is a deep look into Amber's life. Amber is a troubled teen who finds out the man she calls dad is actually her step father. After finding this out the family moves into a new town for her senior year. Amber meets Casey who quickly becomes her only friend. Casey is also troubled and can
easily relate to Amber. Amber's life turns around after meeting Landon and quickly falls in love with him. This story is full of shocking events but gives you a great view into the life of a cutter. I can't wait to read the next book, the cliff hanger at the end still has me shocked!" - Lauren Alumbaugh (5 stars)

Book Feature & Excerpt for Hobson’s Choice by Clive West

Hobson’s Choice & 15 other twist-in-the-tail short stories

This is a collection of stories whose endings you can try to predict, but you will almost always get it wrong. From the lottery-winner who inspires enmity in his neighbour, to the fraudulent fortune-teller discovering that she has a psychic gift after all, to the down-trodden schoolboy whose 'daydreams' reveal a crime which he then uses all his ingenuity to expose, a huge range of characters walk through these pages.
Some of them are innocent; others, like the greedy property-developer, border on evil; but most of them are human with all the foibles and self-interest inherent in that condition. To read these stories is to share in the author's jaundiced view of the world - a world nonetheless illuminated by flashes of humour, pathos and warmth. You will be hugging yourself with glee at the 'comeuppance' doled out to some characters, and wishing you could dive into the story to give a timely warning to others. You will certainly be turning the pages rapidly to see what happens …

Excerpt

The removal van had had to park across a shared drive to unload the relatively few personal possessions that he had allowed himself to bring. Less than five minutes after it had parked, Jason was met by a young man who somewhat stiffly introduced himself as his new neighbor before asking how long the drive would be blocked for. Jason immediately took the opportunity to tell him where to go and what to do when he got there – just in case the man was in any doubt. Jason’s strong words and his large physical presence had not been what his neighbor had been expecting and he had beaten a hasty retreat indoors, muttering about ‘consideration’.
Since then, Jason had planted Leylandii to block the sunlight from his neighbor's house, had held loud parties that were not quite raucous enough to get him an ASBO, and left his wheelie bin open as near to his neighbour’s kitchen window as possible so that they were plagued with flies. Also, and knowing how his neighbour felt about blocking the drive, Jason had abandoned his Mercedes diagonally across it at every opportunity.
Not that the neighbours on the other side were exempt, either. Jason had hacked back their mature fruit tree where it ventured over the property line into his garden, making sure to coat the cut ends generously with herbicide, set up halogen security lights that shone directly into their bedroom window, lit bonfires whenever the wind was blowing in their direction, and so on.
The odd solicitor’s letter arrived asking him to desist but, as Jason well knew, he was doing nothing illegal and he carried on heedless of their thinly veiled threats. This continued for some months until eventually, the mainly elderly people and young families living in the little group of houses, formed a residents group to discuss Jason and what to do about him. They had also elected a representative, one of whose functions was to explain the group’s grievances to the perpetrator in person.

About the Author

Clive West was born in the West Country of England in the early 60's. He was educated at a traditional English public school before going on to university to study civil engineering. Over the years, he has worked as a civil engineer, tutor of maths and science, schools quiz-master, employment agency boss, and writer.

His work includes a collection of short stories with twists called Hobson's Choice (also available in print), a full-length novel called 'The Road' about the consequences of corruption on ordinary people and an accessible job hunting interview guide (based on his years of experience as the boss of an employment agency).

He has also written a book about lymphedema. This is a disfiguring, life-threatening and incurable disease he now suffers from and which his experience shows that most fellow patients have (like him) been abandoned by their respective health services.

Clive now lives in a rebuilt farmhouse in the Umbrian region of Italy along with Damaris, his writer wife of 22 years and their three rescue dogs. Apart from his fictional work, Clive also writes commercial non-fiction on a variety of topics but especially relating to business and employment. He and Damaris run an indie publishers called Any Subject Books Ltd – www.anysubject.com

You can also follow Any Subject Books on Facebook – www.facebook.com/anysubject

Clive is now disabled but, aside from his writing, he also enjoys playing the keyboard, listening to music and reading.

How to send .MOBI files to your Kindle device.#Kindle #ebooks

How to send .MOBI files to your Kindle device

As a published author, I've given out several copies of my book Silenced for a honest review in return. One question that seems to keep coming up is... "How do I add the file to my Kindle?"

In this step by step guide I will show you.

Save the MOBI file and be sure you know where you saved it.

First lets sign into your Amazon account.

Once you're logged in look in the upper right hand corner of the screen. You'll find the Your Account Option. Click it.

This will open up a screen with many options listed.  Scroll down until you see the Manage Your Kindle under the Digital content section. Click this option.

The next screen will take you to your Kindle Library. On the left side there's a column of options. Scan down the options until you see the Personal Documents Settings. Click it. It will take you to another screen which has some pretty important information on it. If you have your Kindle... either the hand held Kindle or the app on your phone, there's a certain email address listed.

Depending on which Kindle device you want to send that file to will tell you which email you will need. Once you see the device listed scroll down to the approved email list. Make sure your email is listed. If not, add it to the list.

After your email is there go back up to the amazon email mentioned earlier. Copy this address. Head on over to your regular email account. Choose to compose a new email. Paste the kindle address in the TO address bar.

Attach the MOBI file to your email. Once it's attached... press send.

Wait a few minutes and jump back over to your Amazon screen. On the left side column find the Personal Documents option and click it. Once the file you emailed has loaded to that device, the file will be listed here.

Then you go to that device and double check it's there. Once you see it's there.. enjoy your book. After you read the book... head back to Amazon and leave a review for the author of the book.

Happy Reading.

Here's a way to help. Join the Silenced Street Team.

The purpose of a street team is to help get the word out about the Author and their work. I'm so busy with writing and promotion... I must admit.. I need help. With the promotion of Silenced and trying to help other authors out... I have no time to write or do reviews.

For each person in this group that follows the guidelines.... will get one ecopy of Silenced. This will be for your own enjoyment.

If you are found not to be doing your part, I will have no choice but to kick you from the group. Everyone needs to pull their own weight.

I will also be trying to purchase a paperback copy of Silenced for each member per month. This way they will have both the ebook and paperback.

Any new swag will get handed out to the street team first. If you're a blogger that wants extra for giveaways... just ask.

Once I see this runs smoothly... I will lighten up a bit.

Thank you for being here and helping me.
